History remembers those that have the courage to go against the flow – especially when saving lives is concerned. It’s been over a year into this pandemic and our approach to dealing with it has not changed. World wide, early treatment options have been shown to reduce hospitalizations and death. However, here in Alberta when a person tests positive they are basically told to isolate at home and present at the hospital only if they develop severe covid-19 symptoms - with no early treatment options offered. In some other countries people testing positive are sent home with potentially life-saving treatments
In Alberta we are being denied the most important aspect of this treatment – ivermectin. As far as I am aware, not a single government in North America has stepped up to help its citizens in the fight against covid-19 by using an early treatment protocol such as I-MASK+Protocol (adding in ivermectin to existing protocols https://covid19criticalcare.com/covid-19-protocols/i-mask-plus-protocol/ ) as developed by the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance . However there are other countries that have. In Mexico City, hospitalizations and deaths dropped dramatically after two months of test and treat administration of ivermectin. Other countries, including Japan, Slovakia, Bulgaria, India, Egypt, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Bolivia, Peru and Argentina, have also seen a drop in death rate after the introduction of ivermectin into their protocols.
Ivermectin is one of the safest drugs ever produced. Over 3.5 billion doses have been administered worldwide.
On February 23rd, 2021, the BIRD (British Ivermectin Recommendation Development) panel, made up of 75 researchers, specialists, generalists and citizens, overwhelmingly recommended ivermectin for prevention and treatment of covid-19. There have been over 25 clinical trials demonstrating ivermectin’s safety and efficacy both for prevention and treatment of the virus.
I believe that your goal is to reopen Alberta in time for summer. Combining early intervention with the vaccine rollout would help you accomplish your goal. Research in Israel suggests that ivermectin demonstrates an anti-SARS-covid-2 activity and reduces the viral shedding period as well as the infectivity time. Giving Albertans, who test positive, the choice to take ivermectin would help reduce the amount of spread and number of hospitalizations. As well, ivermectin also appears to be effective against the new fast spreading variants.
While large governing bodies are asking for more clinical trials on ivermectin, there is an urgency to move forward – we are experiencing a pandemic and we don't have time to wait. This very safe and effective drug, that can potentially save many lives, must be made available to Albertans. We have nothing to lose by trying this potentially effective early intervention.
If saving lives is your highest priority, then please take immediate action to introduce early stage treatment of covid-19, including ivermectin, for Albertans. Early intervention is the way back to a healthy population and economy.
